April 1 - 28, 1943

Thurs. Apr. 1

Was on K.P. today. Plenty hard work but not too bad. Hardest job was pots & pans. In evening we had a company party & on the program I played a "tune on my snout" as Dad says.

Apr. 7

Had a busy week end with a lot of company. Fri night Guise & 4 other of the girls stopped. Ada & Millie came Sat. night. Met them for dinner at Younkers, we went to the show & then I met Bertha & Fred for a while. Three other Waacs & I went to Wilson Hyde's church (good sermon & friendly people) Sun. a.m. Was with the girls again in p.m. Monday got plenty of exercise. Had double drill period, in evening I played volley ball & then a truck-load of us went bowling. Last night I went to Martha's. She's just back from John's so we had a good visit. Today has been like spring or is spring. Tonight I've been getting jobs done - as hair washing, shoe shining, etc. Bed now at 10 P.M.

April 11

Friday was the last day at Drake. Friday night everyone was excited about leaving & getting orders. We packed & had a high time after lights were out exchanging wise cracks & fixing beds that had been fixed. Saturday moved to Hotel Chamberlain for 6 wks. course of Administrative School. Hames, Pounders & Teague are my roommates. Our room is dirty & crowded & quite dilapidated - after our quarters at Drake. The B. R. isn't as good & the food isn't as good as at Drake but there are advantages - lavatory in room, softer beds, etc. In eve went to see doll display at Younkers & to a show. Sunday we went to the Baptist Church - In P.M. were at USO & I played some ping pong.

Mon. Apr. 12

Got paid today - $56.67 - started the 10 days before I reported - i.e. when I got my orders. Classes started today - sort of complicated being in the Aronsky Bldg. & Coliseum there being so many of us.

Tues. 13th

K.P. Velly tired.

Sun. April 18

Lorine & I were at Esther's today. Shoot came after us this morning, we went to church had dinner, and then they took us for a ride.

Last night visited with Reed and Marian a couple of hours (they're at Hyde's) and then was at Aunt Bess's for a while.

The first week has gone quite smoothly. We're almost busier than during basic. Have an hour of study in eve.

Mon. April 19

Saw my first gen. - Gen. Faith spoke to us at Coliseum in evening.

April 21

Was company C.Q. yesterday & last night - a job. Am getting odd jobs done tonight.

Tues. April 27

Went home Sat. night & came back Sun. night - train. Jim was home & Harry & Adele came Sun. so we had quite a reunion. Rained hard Sat. night but cleared up for Easter Sunday.

We are quite busy with our studies, etc. Had a test today.
